2005 KAMIAK
Cellar Select

Columbia Valley, Red Wine

Vintage:

2005 was another in a series of ideal growing years in Washington State. Warm, even spring conditions led to a good fruit set. Above average heat units throughout the summer resulted in an even ripeness and an earlier than normal harvest. The absence of fall rains made for a predictable and mature harvest.

Winemaking:

The grapes were harvested from our usual vineyard sources, with 80% of the fruit coming from the Wahluke slope, lending ripe flavors and a powdery nose. The remainder of the fruit came from Kamiak Vineyards on the Snake River. This fruit gives a soft, lush touch to the wine. The grapes were gently fermented and aged in new French and American oak for 16 months.

Winemaker Comments:

Soft and supple, the nose hints of vanilla and toast with notes of berry and cherry in the background. Flavors are also berry and cherry with undertones of toasty oak, cassis and choke cherry. Red sauces and red meats are the best matches for this wine.
